I live in Seattle with my bitter half (Jim) and dog (Ace). Having worked as a designer of one kind or another my whole life, I am now focused on illustration.
Mother Chukar sent her son to look in on the pear tree down the way. On his return, he shook his head. "It's just a dead & ugly tree." "Oh, dear," she said.
Come spring, she sent him back. He reported, "It's beautiful, but we can't eat flowers. Only bees will like it. It's no good to us." "Maybe," she said.
Come summer, he told her, "It's packed with fruit, but the pears are hard & tasteless. We can't expect a thing from this tree." "Wait," she said.
Come fall, the tree was full of golden juicy pears, & the two partridges feasted. Mother Chukar didn't say a word.
