Laurelhurst Master Suite
This couple had purchased a spectacular view lot with a modest house in Laurelhurst, and had already made extensive landscape and kitchen remodels when they decided to undertake a complete reworking of the north wing of the house into a master suite.
Led by the architect, Michael K. Gibson, AIA, we chose fixtures, furniture, surfaces and window treatments for a new hall, bedroom, bath, closet and dressing room, as well as a new entry and powder room.
The project presented two important opportunities: one was to find the harmony in the couple's differing tastes, and the other was to visually unify a floor plan that had seen several additions over the decades.
We kept the original parquet floors where we could, and laid a highly patterned brown travertine into new floors. We chose to paint all the walls in the new suite the same color, a decision that eventually extended throughout the entire house. The cabinets (designed by Gibson) were picked out in white. Perfectly good drapes were recycled into roman shades. Strategic new furniture purchases were made to mingle with existing pieces. Enlarge & view additional images
